Excerpt from Railway Surgery: A Handbook on the Management of Injuries On account of the great increase in the number of injuries received on the railway, the peculiarities that many of them present, and the absence of any manual defining their distinctive features and their proper management, the following pages are introduced to the profession. This work, as its title implies, is intended merely as a practical handbook to show wherein the injuries ordinarily met with in railway service differ from those incident to other occupations, and to direct special lines in their diagnosis, treatment, and management. There is no aim at scientific completeness, nor any attempt made to discuss theories or to settle dogmatic points.
